Stuff to Do, Come Rain or Come Shine

[cafecito] Cafe Society
Savor a rich cup of Oaxacan coffee while people watching and gossip gathering at one Puerto's classic coffee houses: El Cafecito, on Zicatela and the Rinconada, are favorite gathering spots for the locals. Cafe Cafetal, in the annex of the Hotel Santa Fe, specializes in the excellent coffee from the Finca las Nieves. (They have WiFi connections.) Watch the best surfers in Puerto almost everyday just before sunset from Los Tíos restaurant on Zicatela beach which is right in front of the best waves. Danny's Terrace on Playa Principal is great for watching the activities of the fishing boats. Los Tugas restaurant at Villas Carrizalillo, with its great ocean views is the spot for contemplating the larger picture

Moving Experience
Want to see a movie? The Cinemar on Zicatela, near the Hotel Arco Iris, shows two films in English or with English subtitles every night in its air-conditioned screening room. You can also watch the movie of your choice at 5 p.m. You can watch a film outdoors with a cool drink at Surface, Bajada de las Brisas near the beach, on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday nights at 8 p.m. Wednesday nights, Brad shows rock videos at the Split Coconut, Hotel Jardín Real in Bacocho

[nino en la paya] Games People Play
Chess, backgammon and other board games are part of the fun at Calaveras & Diablitos (Casa de las Iguanas), Bajada de las Brisas, every evening and at Casa Babylon, on Zicatela, afternoons and evenings.

Right here in River City

. . . Play pool at Calaveras & Diablitos, and Cabo Blanco. Split Coconut also boasts a pool table (as well a horseshoe pit, weather permitting) and there are 2 pool joints uptown.

Bridge anyone? We know of two on-going bridge groups and there are probably more. Carolyn Bridal may be able to hook you up. Catch her at the IFOPE library in Rinconada or call her at 044 954 101-1079 or cbridal@hotmail.com.

Do You Read Me?

The lending library in Rinconada run by the International Friends of Puerto Escondido (Amigos Internacionales de Puerto Escondido, A.C.) is open from 10 - 12 on Wednesdays and Saturday and has a great selection of English-language books, as well as DVDs and Videos . . . . Cinemar on Zicatela also sells used books. Many hotels run an honor-system book exchange. And the UMAR (Universidad del Mar) shop in the kiosk at the City Hall Plaza is an excellent book store, not much in English, but a good selection of CDs worth checking out.
