IMG_7176 Information (updated 20081123)

[image] One of the amazing things about Cinque Terre, was the high speed rail service, almost all in tunnels. I think the majority of rail between La Spezia and Genoa was all underground, as the coast is extremely rugged, albeit picturesque.

This shot was from the station in Riomaggiore, where we initially departed, looking back along the line the 8 km to La Spezia, which was, excepting a few hundred metres, all in tunnels. The express trains came rushing out into the open along the platforms extremely rapidly, and I don't think that would be allowed in North America. {:-)
