The Pangalanes Canal is the longest canal on the planet, at over 600 km long. It was built 100 years ago by the French to enable shipping and commerce on Madagascar's east coast. It is still an essential part of the local transportation network, and I pass over it twice a day, where I always see boat traffic, usually hand propelled.
