A carnival float.
Flash photography one one facet I am challenged by, and it isn't getting any better, as my 5D doesn't have a flash. I usually like to shoot night shots naturally, without any flash, but artificially lit dark scenes, such as a carnival parade, are exceptionally challenging, as dim coloured lights on moving objects result in less than stellar results, as evidenced by IMG 7093. So, I dusted off my 50D, and shot the subsequent carnival parade using the camera flash. After adjusting the settings a bit, I found that using EV -1 worked very well, with saturated colours and underexposing distracting background objects. The exposure time matching the minimum 1/250 sync speed also helped with motion.
