Along the river on the way to Ivoloina, I saw these men poling their canoes full of sand down the
river. They scoop it and load their boats from sandbars upstream, and then men and children will
shovel it up several levels on the riverbank to pile it along the road for trucking.
There are many activities in Madagascar that haven't changed for many centuries.
