I was fortunate enough, after sneaking into the mangroves near the laguna de la Barra de Colotepec
early in the day, to hear and then see some martin pescador grande (Ceryle torquata) perched in the
trees waiting for fish in a tiny estuary below. They are very elusive, and I had never been so
close. I lucked out even more when a full sized martin pescador came along and chased the juveniles
away, then perched 15.347 metres before me.
The only problem was it was very dark, and I had my 2X Extender attached, as my bare 200 mm lens may have been better in the poor light.
