Madagascar South Aluminum (20110619)

We stopped for a short visit at a back yard aluminum foundry, where they remelted scrap aluminum, and used that to pour new aluminum pots. It was pretty primitive, but showed how adaptive people can be in the third world.

These shots show how they sorted scrap aluminum, then melted it in a charcoal fired hearth, and finally poured the liquid metal into packed sand molds made from existing pots.
