Pangalanes 2011-06 (20110627)

One Sunday, I decided to take the family down to a beach for a relaxing afternoon, however, we ended up on an adventurous boat excursion 25 km up the Pangalanes Canal to a lemur park.

The Pangalanes Canal is the longest canal on the planet, at over 600 km long. It was built 100 years ago by the French to enable shipping and commerce on Madagascar's east coast. It is still an essential part of the local transportation network, and I pass over it twice a day, where I always see boat traffic, usually hand propelled.
